Wilderness Offense Sputters in Series Finale Loss to Fairbanks

Dec 11, 2023

Two late first period goals just over one minute apart were all the Fairbanks Ice Dogs needed Sunday night in a 2-0 win over the Minnesota Wilderness.

Marc Lund broke a scoreless tie with 1:32 left in the opening with a shot from the slot, and he was followed by Kole Altergott notching a goal from a redirection with 22 seconds remaining.

Tyler Krivtsov was the winning goaltender stopping all 33 Wilderness shots. Minnesota had difficulty generating chances beginning in the latter stages of the first period and extending through most of the middle frame. The Ice Dogs limited the Wilderness to only four shots on goal in the 2nd, compared to 10 for Fairbanks.

The Wilderness was also scoreless on five power play chances, but did keep Fairbanks from scoring on its three situations with the extra man.

Adam Prokop took the loss in net for the Wilderness stopping 30 of 32 Fairbanks shots.

Sunday’s game was the finale of a 3-game series between the two squads in which the Wilderness won the first two contests, 5-0 in game one on Friday, followed by a 1-0 shootout victory Saturday.

Minnesota will now prepare for one more game before it goes on a break for the Christmas holiday. The Wilderness will meet the Chippewa Steel on the road December 15 at 7:00 p.m.
