Wilderness Get Blanked in Pre-Season Opener

Sep 1, 2023

A strong 2nd period and tight goaltending led the Austin Bruins to a 4-0 victory over the Minnesota Wilderness Friday night in Austin, MN.

The Bruins scored three goals in the 2nd and added one more in the third, while veteran goaltender Trent Wiemken shut the door in net, stopping all 28 Wilderness shots faced.

Landon Dauner and Matys Brassard each cashed in twice to pace Austin offensively, with each player also scoring once on the power play.

The Wilderness saw a strong effort from goaltender Loris Uberti, who held off the Bruins in the first period, and allowed only one goal in the 2nd before being replaced by Tommy O’Donnell at the 11:30 mark of the middle frame.  O’Donnell was between the pipes for three of the Bruins’ four tallies.

A younger lineup, comprised of only three players who were part its roster in 2022-23, skated for Minnesota. Despite its youth and inexperience, the Wilderness managed to outshoot the Bruins, 28-25.

A pre-season rematch is set for Saturday night at the St. Luke’s Sports and Event Center in Proctor, MN.  Puck drop at the Wilderness’ temporary home is set for 7:15 p.m.
