Wilderness Blanked in Series Opener

Oct 22, 2022

The Minnesota Wilderness gave up a late first period goal and could not solve some stellar goaltending in a 1-0 loss to the Springfield Jr. Blues Friday night.

Carson Dorfman shut down the Wilderness (6-4-2) in stopping all 34 shots he faced to earn his 2nd win of the season and first shutout of his young Jr. career. The 19-year-old from Nashville, TN, was most impressive in the third period, as he stopped a number of point-blank chances in the latter stages. It’s the first time this season Minnesota was kept off the scoreboard.

Jake Peterson registered the game’s lone goal.  The Rosemount, MN, native made it 1-0 for Springfield (5-7-0) when he popped in a rebound on a shot by James Callahan that beat Isak Posch on the glove side with 2:27 left in the first period.

Posch ended up making 26 saves on 27 shots.  The loss snapped a 4-game winning streak for Minnesota’s veteran netminder as his record fell to 4-3-1.

The regulation loss also terminated the Wilderness’ 8-game point streak, and it marked the first time it failed to earn a point in in its 8-game home stand which began Sept 30.

Both teams were held scoreless on the power play, with Springfield earning two chances to Minnesota’ one.

The two squads will close the 2-game weekend series Saturday night; puck drop at Northwoods Credit Union Arena is scheduled for 7:15.
