Livecchi Named Midwest Division Star of the Week

Nov 23, 2021

A dominant weekend performance has earned Sam Livecchi his first ever North American Hockey League award.  Livecchi today was named the Midwest Division’s Star of the Week for his play in last weekend’s sweep of the Chippewa Steel.

From the NAHL release:

Minnesota Wilderness goalie Sam Livecchi, 19, helped his club to a weekend home-and-home sweep of the Chippewa Steel. The 6’0/160 lbs. native of Rochester, NY, stopped 59 of 61 shots in the two wins, which included his first career NAHL shutout. On Thursday, Livecchi made 33 saves through regulation and overtime, then stopped five of six shooters in the shootout in a 3-2 win. On Saturday, he stopped all 26 shots that came his way for his first career NAHL shutout in a 6-0 win. For the season, Livecchi has a 5-4-0 record in nine appearances with a 3.07 goals against average and .907 save percentage. “We are really happy for Sam.  We brought him in two weeks ago and told him we thought he needed to be more intense every day in practice.  His response in practice has been outstanding and the results last week were a direct result of his response.  Sam is a very good goalie and we expect we will see more of what we saw last weekend in future games,” said Wilderness head coach Dave Boitz.

The Wilderness have three games scheduled for this week.  They will entertain the Minnesota Magicians on Nov. 24, followed by another weekend home-and-home series with Chippewa.  They will visit the Steel on Nov. 26, with a home rematch set for Nov. 27. The game in Chippewa is set for 7:00pm, while the home games will start at 7:15pm.
