May 7, 2024

The Minnesota Wilderness has added the top scorer for the top team from Section 7A of Minnesota High School Hockey.

Forward River Freeman has signed a tender agreement with the Wilderness for the 2024-25 season. As a junior, the Duluth native led Hermantown High School to the Section 7A championship during the 2023-24 campaign. Freeman was Hermantown’s top scorer last season, posting 22 goals, 27 assists and 49 points. His totals include 8 points (3 goals, 5 assists) over three games played at the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament where Freeman helped the Hawks advance to the Class A Championship game.

Throughout its history, the Wilderness franchise has received significant contributions from players coming from Hermantown High School. That list includes Beau Janzig, who finished the 2023-24 season leading all Wilderness defensemen in scoring with 34 points (5 goals, 29 assists) over 53 regular season games, plus two points (1 goal/1 assist) over four playoff contests.
