Dahms to Continue Hockey Career at UMD

Jan 10, 2024

Ashton Dahms, who became one of the NAHL’s top scorers in his time with the Minnesota Wilderness this season, has selected Minnesota-Duluth as his NCAA destination.

A 6’1, 165 pound forward, Dahms began the 2022-23 season at the pre-season camp for the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers. After being dropped from the Gamblers roster prior to the regular season, Dahms returned to the Wilderness, where he played 10 games during the 2022-23 regular season, and nine more in the 2023 playoffs. Dahms fit right in with the Wilderness lineup this season and racked up 28 points on 19 goals and 9 assists over 25 games while becoming the squad’s leading scorer.

The 18-year-old native of Lakeville, MN, currently skates with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL. Dahms joined his new team on Dec. 15 and has continued to rack up points, putting up four goals and one assist over seven games.

Wilderness head coach Colten St. Clair has nothing but praise for Dahms.

“I couldn’t be happier to have been able to help such a determined athlete”, said St. Clair.

The first-year head coach added: “When we first got him this year, he could have easily felt bad for himself [for being cut by Green Bay], but he made the best of it and got better each and every day. We are very proud as an organization to have been a part of his journey. He is going to accomplish great things.”

Prior to beginning his junior A career, Dahms skated for Lakeville South High School. At the conclusion of his senior year with the Cougars in 2023, Dahms joined the Wilderness, and in 10 games, posted three points with one goal and two assists, plus one goal during Minnesota’s Robertson Cup playoff run that ended with an appearance in the league semi-finals.
