Jan 19, 2023

The Minnesota Wilderness’ Joe Cesario has soared to the top of the team’s rookie scoring stats this season and will soar some more once he begins playing college hockey. The 19-year-old forward today announced he will play his college hockey at the Air Force Academy of the Atlantic Hockey Association.

A native of Westminster, CO, Cesario has played in all 35 of the team’s games in the 2022-23 NAHL season. His 13 goals, 9 assists and 22 points lead all Wilderness first year players.  He’s also played a critical role on Wilderness special teams, with his 5 power play goals being second on the team.

With the AFA based in Colorado Springs, CO, Cesario will be returning to his home state when he moves on to play in the NCAA.

“Really proud of Joe being rewarded for his hard work this season,” said Minnesota head coach Brett Skinner. “Being from Colorado, it really feels like a good fit for both Joe and Air Force and we couldn’t be happier for him.”

Cesario also played two games for the Wilderness during the 2021-22 season.  Prior to beginning his Jr. A career,

he spent the previous four seasons with the Rocky Mountain Roughriders AAA program.

The Wilderness return to the ice Friday night in Chippewa Falls, WI, to take on the Chippewa Steel.  The same two teams will meet for a rematch at Northwoods Credit Union Arena in Cloquet Saturday night at 7:15 p.m.
