Minnesota Wilderness Hockey Team Sweeps Minot in 2019 Home Opener Under New Coaching Jon Vaillancourt and Brendan Phelps.

Wilderness Sweep Minotauros at Home Opener

CLOQUET, MN   – The Minnesota Wilderness Swept their opponent, The Minot Minotauros, for in their 2019 home opener series in Cloquet over the weekend! 

Friday night was a night full of goals, as the Wilderness topped the Minotauros 7-6 in a shoot out. #8 Nate Horn opened up his third season on Wilderness home ice with a hat trick. Wilderness veterans #10 Nick Ports, #27 Jake Herter, and #18 Tyler Watkins all netted goals, leading the team to overtime. With no goals ending the game in OT, #19 Kimball Johnson buried a shoot out goal, securing the win for the Wilderness. With the exception of Johnson, all Wilderness goals came from returning players. 

On Saturday night #13 Eric Fawkes came out strong, notching his first and second goals of the season. CEC Hockey Alum and Wilderness veteran #7 Ryan Nelson sniped a puck for a goal, followed by #11 Nathan Adrian. Then, #10 Nick Portz put up his second goal and fifth point of the weekend. 

The Wilderness play at home on Thursday, October 10th at 7pm on home ice, at Northwoods Arena. Thursday, October 10th is Thirsty Thursday against the Austin Bruins .$5 Tickets for everyone and 2 for 1s on domestic beer at the bar.
