CLOQUET, MN – January 29th – The Minnesota Wilderness, split the weekend at vs the Aberdeen Wings. The Wings won Friday’s game by a score of 5-2 and the Wilderness returned the favor by beating the Wings 3-2 in a Shootout Saturday. The Wilderness are now 20-17–3 for a total of 43 points and are in 3rd Place in the NAHL Central Division.The Wings are 24-11-4 for a total of 52 points and are in 1st place in the same division.

The Minnesota Wilderness fell to the Aberdeen Wings by a score of 5 to 2. Just like the previous 2 games against the Wings, the Wilderness found themselves down 1-0 in the 1st period when the Wings scored at the 12:26 mark off a defensive zone breakdown. The Wilderness responded in the 2nd period when Nick Altmann scored at the 5:21 mark. Gino Lucia & Eric Gotz assisted on Altmann’s 11th of the year. The Wings then put up four straight goals in the 2nd and 3rd period. Two of the four goals were on the power play. Nick Michel scored a power play goal with less than four minutes to go in the 3rd. Michel’s goal was assisted by Collin Baird & Eric Gotz. Goaltender Ryan Fanti had 32 saves in the loss.

The Minnesota Wilderness beat the Aberdeen Wings 3-2 in a game that was decided in a Shootout. The Wilderness and Wings traded chances in the 1st but the score remained tied 0-0 after one. Shots were even after the 1st period and both teams has a power play opportunity. Aberdeen broke the tie at the 17:14 mark of the 2nd when the Wings were able to score when both teams had a man in the box and they skated 4 on 4. Shots remained even at the end of the 2nd 24 to 24. The Wilderness were able to start their comeback when Ben Ward scored at 4:33 of the 3rd. Ash Altmann forechecked hard causing the Aberdeen defender to turn the puck over. Ward was left alone in front of the net, and beat the goalie short side tying the game 1-1. The Wilderness were able to take the lead with 31 seconds left in the game when forward Alex Truscott poked the puck past the goalie. Luke Dow & Andrew Troy assisted on the go ahead goal. Aberdeen was able to score to tie the game and it then went to overtime. The teams traded chances in Overtime with it ending 4-4 in shots and still tied 2-2. In the shootout Eric Gotz scored through the 5-hole and Ed Lindelow won the game with a shot that went in just below the glove. Goaltender Jacob Sibell had 35 saves in the victory and stopped 4 of 5 shooters in the shootout.
