CLOQUET, MN – JANUARY 2ND , 2017 –  The Minnesota Wilderness, fresh off of a 3-win weekend, will start the new year in first place in the NAHL’s Central Division. After a 0-4 start to the season, the Wilderness have gone 17-8-3 since, including their current 6-game winning streak.

“Over the last five or six weeks, our players have created their identity as a team. Our staff is proud of who we are becoming as a group. We play team-first hockey, and that is who we are. If we continue to play to this identity, we will continue to win hockey games.”

Last Weekend:

Friday December 29th Eric Gotz’s goal in the shootout lifted the Minnesota Wilderness to a win against the Austin Bruins. Nick Altmann, Nathan Horn and Ondrej Trejbal all scored for Minnesota in regulation. Ryan Fanti was remarkable as he made 48 saves in 65 minutes of action and then stopped three of four shooters in the skills competition.

Saturday December 30th – Luke Dow exploded for two goals and two assists as the Wilderness took care of the Austin Bruins 7-3 on Saturday night. Eric Gotz scored once and assisted on two other goals in the win. Gino Lucia and Nicholas Michel each had a goal and an assist for the Wilderness. Isaac Kobienia and Colin Baird grabbed a goal as well. Ryan Fanti picked up another win as he turned aside 27 of 30 Austin shots.

Sunday December 31st – In his first game in a Wilderness uniform, goaltender Connor Poczos stopped all 25 shots that came his way to earn the shutout and win. The game was scoreless through the first two periods, but then the Wilderness turned up the heat in the 3rd period. It took just :31 seconds into the final frame for the eventual game-winner to be scored, which came from Eric Gotz. Later in the period, Nikolai Lyssogor and Colin Baird also added goals.

Current Standings:

The Wilderness return home for the weekend January 12th & 13th as they host the Monot Minotauros. On Friday January 12th, the Wilderness will have their Annual Dollar Ticket Night sponsored by USG.
