CLOQUET, MINNESOTA – JANUARY 30th, 2017- The Minnesota Wilderness capped off a weekend sweep of the Coulee Region Chill Saturday night, in front of 1,792 passionate fans at Northwoods Credit Union Arena. Winners of 3 straight, the Wilderness currently sit alone in second place in the NAHL’s Central Division with a 21-15-4 record. Next weekend, first place Minot travels to Northwoods Credit Union Arena for the much anticipated 1 vs 2 matchup. The Wilderness are currently 10 points behind the Minotauros, with 1 game in hand and 7 more contests between the 2 teams.

The Wilderness, who won the Robertson Cup National Championship in 2015, are in search of their first ever regular season division championship. In 5 previous meetings with Minot this season, the Wilderness have handed them 3 of their division-best 11 losses. This weekend’s series will be one that fans & personnel around the league with have their eyes on.

Head Coach Tim Madsen, on the teams’ weekend sweep & upcoming showdown with Minot: “Anytime you can get 4 points on a weekend in this league, it’s a great weekend. The crowds have been spectacular at Northwoods Credit Union Arena, and our players have been feeding off that energy. Looking ahead to this coming weekend, we expect it to be a playoff atmosphere all weekend long. With only 1/3 of the regular season remaining, we are going to continue to get better and better each day so we are playing our best hockey come playoff time.”

It’s Washington Elementary week! The players will be attending lunch on Monday and reading to the students on Monday and Tuesday. Friday is Washington Elementary night at the rink. $5.00 for students and $7.00 for adults (from Washington Elementary). Saturday night there will be Bent Paddle Sampling 6:30-9:00 by the Wilderness Tiki Hut located on the mezzanine. The Esko Mite 2’s will be playing during the first intermission.

FRIDAY: Coulee Region 1 @ MN Wilderness 3 – Setting the tone in the second period, the Minnesota Wilderness grabbed a 3-1 win at home over Coulee Region to start their weekend. The Wilderness saw goals from Pavel Mikhasenok, Michael Zuffante, and Ashton Altmann. Jackson Decker scored Coulee Region’s lone goal. In net, Minnesota’s Trevor Micucci took home the win with 27 saves. Brad Arvanitis made 41 saves in the Chill’s loss.

SATURDAY: Coulee Region 2 @ MN Wilderness 5 – With a 5-2 victory, the Minnesota Wilderness completed their weekend sweep over the Coulee Region Chill. The Wilderness’ five goals came from Dylan Mills, Nick Altmann (2), Pavel Mikhasenok, and Jesse Farabee. Joey Sofo scored both of Coulee Region’s goals in the contest. In net, Luke Kania took home the win with 28 saves for the Wilderness. Coulee Region’s Brad Arvanitis made 41 stops in the loss.
