Game 1 in Kenai ended in a 2-1 loss for the visiting Wilderness. The lone goal on the night was scored by Jakob Romo. Romo scored on a power play in the first period (17:52). Terry Leabo picked up the assist on the goal. The Brown Bears had 37 shots on goal, Kasimir Kaskisuo with 35 saves. The Wilderness had 28 shots on goal for the night.
Game 2 ended in a different story for the Minnesota Wilderness. After being winless in Alaska going into Friday, the team found their grovoe. They won 5-4 in a shootout. Darian Romanko scored the first goal on the night in the first period (3:20) assisted by Jakob Romo. Kenai then answered back with two goals to start the second period by Vincent Stefan and Eric Purcell. Thomas Lindstrom ended the second period by scoring (19:27) assisted by Brett Heikkila and Terry Leabo. The third period went back and forth with scoring; Kenai's Matt Rudin and Jack Gessert (10:21 and 17:21). Jakob Romo added to the score with his goal (13:18) assisted by Jesse Kessler and Darian Romanko. To tie the game at four apiece, Darian Romanko scored his second goal on the night (19:08) assisted by Jakob Romo and Terry Leabo. After a scoreless overtime the game headed to a shootout. All four Wilderness shooters scored; Thomas Lindstrom, Johno May, Michael Covach and Jakob Romo. The Wilderness won the shootout 4-1, winning the game 5-4. The Wilderness spent much of the night in penalty trouble with eight minors and two majors adding up to 26 minutes of penatly time. Goalie Frank Oplinger rejected 35 shots on the night.
Game 3 of the series ended in another win by the Wilderness. After a scoreless first period, Terry Leabo scored on a power play (5:58) assisted by Jack Forbort and Dominik Tiffels. Darian Romanko scored the other goal in the third period (3:31) assists by Ivan Chukarov and Johno May. Goalie Kasimir Kaskisuo played great on his way to his seventh shutout on the season, with 35 saves on 35 shots in Saturday's game.
The Wilderness make their way home Sunday and will play again at Northwoods Credit Union Arena on Friday December 6th at 7:05. Come out and welcome the Boys Back to Town!!
