The Wisconsin Wilderness and the Wisconsin National Guard are proud to team together to host "Guard the Cup". This is a two game series with the Thunder Bay North Stars on February 3 and 4, with the cup going to the team that scores the most total goals in the two game series. In addition to the battle for the cup, it will be Military Appreciation Night, All military in uniform and with ID will get in free to the game. Come out and show your support for the Wilderness AND the United States and Canadian Military.
"GUARD THE CUP! Border Battle" Silent Auction
The special jerseys that the Wilderness players will be wearing for the Guard the Cup, will be auctioned off on Saturday, February 4. The Silent Auction will take place during the Wilderness v. Thunder Bay game. The highest bidder for each jersey will be announced after the game and will be presented the jersey by a Wilderness player.
For the second week in a row, the Wilderness have been ranked number four in the Canadian Junior Hockey League's top 20 ranking. The Wilderness currently have a record of 39-4-1 and a winning percentage of .898, which is the second best winning percentage in the entire 133 team CJHL.
The weekly rankings are selected in consultation with National Hockey League Central Scouting and are based upon a variety of factors, including the league in which the team plays, percentage, win-loss record, and goals-for versus goals-against ratio. The CJHL is comprised of ten leages across Canada: the Superior Junior Hockey League (SIJHL), British Columbia Junior Hockey League(BCHL), Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL), Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL), Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL), Ontario Junior Hockey League(OJHL), Central Canada Hockey League, Ligue de Hockey Junior AAA due Quebec (LHJAAAQ), and the Maritime Hockey League (MHL).

The Wilderness played three games during the past week, winning against defeating Dryden and Fort Frances and losing to Sioux Lookout. Currently the Wilderness sit atop the SIJHL leaderboard in first place, with a record of 39-4-1, leading the second place Fort Frances Lakers by 14 points.
The week started with the Wilderness hosting the Lakers in Virginia, MN and skating to a 5-2 victory, their 21st win in a row. After a scoreless opening period, the Lakers opened the scoring, but the Wilderness responded with goals from Nick Drill and Shane Topf to lead 2-1 after two periods of play. A third period force all season long, the Wilderness increased their lead in the third, with goals from Luke Hendrickson, Mike Dietrich and Jeremy Johnson. Shots on goal were 48-24 in favor of Wisconsin with Tanner Milliron picking up the win in goal.
The winning streak came to an end in Sioux Lookout on Friday night, as the Flyers defeated the Wilderness 5-2 -- only the Wilderness' fourth loss of the season. The Wilderness scored two power play goals in the game. Zach Blaisdell (from Mike Dietrich) and Shane Topf (assisted by Anthony Calabrese and Steve Hughes) scored for the Wilderness in the loss.
Saturday, the Wilderness rebounded from their loss on Friday, with a decisive 5-0 victory over the Dryden Ice Dogs. The Wilderness struck early in the game, with Luke Hendrickson (assisted by Nick Drill) scoring just 14 seconds into the game. Shane Topf added a shorthanded goal later in the first to put the Wilderness up 2-0 after one period of play. Anthony Calabrese increased the lead in the second and Jeremy Johnson and Andre Rakas scored in the third to finish up the scoring for the game.Goalie Tanner Milliron, who leads the SIJHL in shutouts with six, won his 15th consecutive start while stopping all 20 shots he faced.
The Wilderness have three games on the schedule this week , all against the third place Thunder Bay North Stars. Wednesday and Friday, the games will be played in Thunder Bay, while Saturday's matchup has the Wilderness returning home. Friday and Saturday's games will be the 1st annual "Guard the Cup" Border Battle games. The winner of the cup will be determined by the total amount of goals that is scored during the series.
