Weekend Recap 11/19 – 11/20

CLOQUET, MN – January 22nd – The Minnesota Wilderness, split the weekend on the road vs the Aberdeen Wings. The Wings won Friday’s game by a score of 3-2 and the Wilderness returned the favor by beating the Wings 3-2 in an Overtime thriller Saturday. The Wilderness are now 19-16–3 for a total of 41 points and are in 3rd Place in the NAHL Central Division.The Wings are 22-11-3 for a total of 47 points and are in 1st place in the same division.

The Minnesota Wilderness fell to the Aberdeen Wings by a score of 3 to 2. The Wilderness found themselves down 1-0 at the 6:32 mark of the first period off of a back door pass that found the back of the net. The Wilderness went down 2-0 at the 7:38 mark of the 2nd period off a defensive zone breakdown that left a Wings player alone in front of the net. Nick Altmann scored his 10th goal of the season at the 11:33 mark of the 2nd period on the Power Play to make the game 2-1. The goal was assisted by Luke Dow & Eric Gotz. Before the period could end at 18:40, the Wings made the game 3-1 right after the Wilderness were able to successfully kill off a penalty. Ondrej Trejbal scored his 7th goal of the season at the 15:16 mark of the 3rd period with an individual effort. The Wilderness were unable to complete the comeback in spite of outshooting the Wings 11-5 in the period. Goaltender Ryan Fanti had 37 saves in the loss.

The Minnesota Wilderness beat the Aberdeen Wings 3-2 in a game that was decided in overtime. The Wilderness found themselves in a similar situation as the previous night being down 1-0 in the 1st period when the Wings scored on the Power Play at the 15:55 mark. The score still remained 1-0 at the end of the 2nd period with a lot of special teams action. 18 total minutes of penalties were called in the period. Edward Lindelow was able to tie the game 1-1 at the 5:06 mark of the 3rd period on the Power Play. Isaac Kobienia and Ondrej Trejbal assisted on the goal. The Wilderness were able to get their first lead of the weekend 2-1 off the stick of Nick Michel at the 15:17 of the 3rd. Edward Lindelow found Eric Gotz in the high slot and Gotz put a shot on net through traffic, Michel was able to tap in the rebound. The Wings pulled their goalie and with the extra attacker were able to tie the game 2-2 at 18:48 of the 3rd to force overtime. In Overtime the Wilderness dominated play outshooting the Wings 3-0 and eventually scored the game winning goal about half way through the extra period. Luke Dow fed Issac Kobienia streaking up the wing and as he crossed the blue line, he found Ondrej Trejbal joining the rush. Trejbal let a one timer go that beat the Wings goaltender winning the game 3-2 for the Wilderness. Goaltender Ryan Fanti had 34 saves in the victory.
