(Cloquet, MN) — The Minnesota Wilderness, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are very pleased to announce that six players have been selected to compete in the NAHL Top Prospect Tournament. The Top Prospect Tournament takes place at the Troy Sports Center in Troy, Michigan on February 17-18.
Defenseman; Terry Leabo (Fargo, ND) and Jesse Kessler (Franklin, TN) along with Forwards; Eric Brenk (Moorhead, MN) and Johno May (Mahtomedi, MN) have been selected to play on the Midwest Team. Forward Jakob Romo (Fullerton, CA) and Defenseman Alex Fredberg (New Brighton, MN) were selected to play on the NAHL U18 Selects.
“We are excited for the opportunity for our boys to get to play in front of the NHL and Division I scouts,” said Wilderness head coach Corey Millen. Millen was also selected to be the assistant coach for the Midwest Team due to the success of the Wilderness squad.
In total, 100 players were selected to participate in this event. The number of players representing each team was based upon their winning percentages on January 20th. The Wilderness ended the day with the second best winning percentage in the Midwest Division, sending four players to compete on the Midwest Team along with the two players selected on the U18 team. Last year the NAHL Top Prospect Tournament brought it more than 170 scouts from both the NHL and Division I level.
The Minnesota Wilderness is in its’ first season in the North American Hockey League. They are based in Cloquet, MN and play their home contests at Northwoods Credit Union Arena.
